What to Expect During a Kitchen Remodel in The Woodlands: A Week-by-Week Guide
Planning a kitchen remodel is exciting—but it can also feel overwhelming if you don’t know what the process looks like. Whether you’re in The Woodlands, Shenandoah, or nearby areas like Conroe, understanding the timeline is key to setting expectations and reducing stress.
At The Woodlands Premiere Remodeling, we’re committed to making every renovation as smooth and predictable as possible. This guide will walk you through the typical kitchen remodeling process, week by week, so you’ll know exactly what’s happening—and when.
Week 1: Finalizing Designs and Pre-Construction Prep
Once your remodeling contract is signed, the first official step is pre-construction planning. If you haven’t finalized your kitchen layout, cabinet style, tile selections, or finishes, this is the time to make those final decisions. We’ll also secure any necessary permits for work in The Woodlands or Montgomery County if applicable.
We’ll provide you with a construction schedule and confirm lead times on custom items. You may also want to start prepping your home—clearing out cabinets, setting up a temporary kitchen space, and getting ready for limited kitchen access.
Week 2: Demolition and Tear-Out
Demo day is usually a big (and loud) milestone. During this phase, we’ll remove the old cabinets, countertops, flooring, appliances, and anything else that’s being replaced.
If plumbing or electrical changes are part of the remodel, we’ll expose those areas and prep for rough-in work. Depending on the size of your kitchen and complexity of the job, demolition typically takes 2-4 days.
Week 3: Framing, Plumbing & Electrical Rough-Ins
Once the space is cleared, our licensed subcontractors step in to handle behind-the-walls work. This includes:
-
Framing any new walls or modifying the kitchen layout
-
Plumbing rough-ins for new sinks, appliances, or islands
-
Electrical updates for lighting, outlets, under-cabinet lighting, etc.
If you’re adding a gas line for a new range or upgrading your electrical panel, this is the time to do it. After inspections are completed (if required), we move forward.
Week 4: Insulation, Drywall, and Painting
After rough-ins are done, we insulate any exposed walls and install new drywall. Once it’s taped, mudded, and sanded, we’ll apply a fresh coat of primer and paint.
This phase can be dusty—so be sure your temporary kitchen setup is still functional! If you’ve selected a bold backsplash or accent wall color, we’ll double-check that everything is looking just right before locking in final touches.
Week 5: Cabinet and Flooring Installation
With the bones of the kitchen in place, it’s time to bring in the stars of the show: your new cabinetry and flooring. Cabinets are installed first and are carefully leveled and anchored. Depending on whether you’ve chosen stock or custom cabinetry, this can take 3-5 days.
Flooring installation—whether it’s tile, hardwood, or luxury vinyl plank—is completed afterward. We protect surfaces throughout this phase to avoid any damage.
Week 6: Countertops and Backsplash
Once cabinets are in place, we measure for your countertops. If you’ve selected quartz, granite, or another custom material, fabrication usually takes 7-10 days.
Once counters are installed, we’ll finish the backsplash tile work and seal everything professionally. At this point, the kitchen is really coming together—and you’re just about ready to cook again!
Week 7: Appliance Install & Final Touches
Appliances are now installed and hooked up. This includes your refrigerator, range, dishwasher, and vent hood. If any specialty appliances were ordered (like a double oven or beverage cooler), we’ll install those as well.
Final touches like hardware, trim, and paint touch-ups happen now. We’ll walk through the kitchen with you to ensure everything is up to our standards—and yours.
Week 8: Final Walkthrough and Clean-Up
We do a full deep clean and schedule your final walkthrough. This is when you’ll inspect everything and we’ll go over any final adjustments or touch-ups needed.
Once you’re 100% satisfied, we consider the job complete. Many of our clients in The Woodlands choose to add finishing services like lighting upgrades, dining area refreshes, or open-concept transitions at this stage.
Every Kitchen Is Unique—And So Are You
Keep in mind, this is a typical timeline. Depending on the size and complexity of your remodel, things may move a little faster—or take a little longer. Custom cabinetry, material delays, or structural updates can impact timing.
At The Woodlands Premiere Remodeling, we pride ourselves on clear communication, reliable timelines, and a collaborative process. Our team lives and works right here in the community, and we’re proud to bring thoughtful, high-quality kitchen remodels to families throughout The Woodlands, Conroe, and surrounding areas.
